Preparing for Hawken

The bright, golden sun glimmered in the autumn sky as the players streamed onto the field for the first day of practice. I stood on the sideline, feeling slightly out of place again. The team started practice with kickoff drills, and blocking schemes. They started with half speed drills, eventually working up to full speed.

The intended punt returner stretched out his hands to welcome the ball, but instead it fell through his arms and bounced across the turf.

"Let's not kick the ball out of bounds! This isn't soccer!" Coach Adams shouted after the player booted the ball out of bounds as 11 other players were charging full speed towards him.

The atmosphere wasn't much different than last week's practice. The players did their part and did what the coaches asked them to do. I didn't stay the whole practice because I had a lot of homework to complete, so I left a half hour early.

The routes were run and repeated on a continuous loop until they were run correctly.

"That's a twenty yard play if you turn at the right time!" The coaches enforced. The routes were practiced on each side of the field, each time the receiver racing a defender to get the ball.

"Keep your eyes upfield, then turn!" Coach Adams instructed.

The Blue Devils continue to prepare to take on the Hawken Hawks away, this Friday, at 7 PM. Please come show your support for the football team!

Hawked is 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference

My Game Prediction

52-17 (Independence)
